Clarice Tinsley’s Hometown Hero this week is Desmond Blair, an artist who was born with no hands.

When Blair was 3 years old he decided he wanted to be an artist. He knew he had talent but his disability was a major challenge to face. His mom took him to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for treatment, therapy and other services.

“Scottish Rite has helped me to take on that mentality over the years that it’s not what I can or can’t do; it’s just a matter of figuring out how I’m gonna do it,” he said.

The former patient now gives back by volunteering. He uses his talents to teach other patients to draw and create 3D characters.

He’s also a guest lecturer at the University of Texas in Dallas, where he’s an inspiration because of his upbeat, can do attitude.
